When buying commercial mailboxes, you must ensure that the mailboxes you purchase meet the area requirements for space and number of mailboxes. Whether the mailboxes are for USPS delivery or private mail delivery, you will need to select the right mailbox design to ensure that mail and package delivery to your location is seamless.
To help accomplish this, Salsbury Industries offers customers access to our online mailbox configurator. You can use this visual design tool to create your own mailbox configuration before you make a purchase. To learn how to use the mailbox configurator to your advantage, continue reading.
Custom mailbox designs and commercial mailbox quoting once relied solely on customers’ answers to a series of questions – a process that could take days or weeks. Today, customers demand a more intuitive and interactive ordering process. That’s why Salsbury Industries has integrated a visual mailbox configurator that allows you to design your own mailbox project.
You can use this tool to design, customize, and review your desired commercial mailbox system. Previously, mailbox design drawings were manually created during the quoting process, but now, customers can create custom mailbox design drawings themselves using the mailbox configurator. This design tool has made a dramatic difference in streamlining the process of creating layouts and ordering mailboxes.
Design Your Own Mailbox
The Salsbury Industries mailbox configurator allows users to create custom mailbox designs using either 4C mailboxes or Cluster mailboxes.
Design 4C Mailbox Systems
USPS approved 4C commercial mailboxes are ideal for commercial buildings, multi-family housing units, apartment complexes, government and military bases, schools, colleges, and residential or commercial developments. These mailboxes are required for new construction and major renovations.
The number of mailbox doors and parcel lockers featured in a 4C mailbox system varies, and several installation styles are available. Here’s more information about the customization options offered by our 4C mailbox configurator.
Mailbox Compartments
The number of mailbox compartments in a Cluster mailbox installation dictates how many people will be able to receive their mail through that system. Using the mailbox configurator to create a mailbox design based on the total number of mailboxes makes the design process much easier.
Installation Type
The installation type of your commercial mailbox system determines how the mailboxes can be positioned within a space. Within the Salsbury Industries mailbox configurator, you’ll be asked to select which installation type you’d like to use for your custom mailbox designs.
These are the installation types we currently offer:
- Recessed mounted 4C mailboxes can be installed within a wall, and they are suitable for indoor and outdoor centralized mail delivery. These units are available for either front loading or rear loading delivery.
- Surface-mounted 4C mailboxes are designed to be installed on the surface of a wall. They can only be accessed from the front using one of the easy-opening master door panels.
- Free-standing 4C mailboxes feature a free-standing enclosure. This option offers customers the option to install commercial mailbox systems where a wall-mounted application is not desired or available. They are available as front loading units only.
All 4C horizontal mailbox styles can be configured:

USPS Delivery or Private Delivery
If the U.S.P.S. will be delivering mail to your location, you must provide them with access to your commercial mailboxes. Upon request, your local postmaster will visit your site and install a master postal lock, allowing U.S.P.S. employees access to the unit through the master door opening. If you will have private mail delivery, then your order will include a factory-installed master commercial lock that allows access to the unit through the master door opening.
Parcel Lockers
The mailbox configurator provides users with the option to include parcel lockers that are designed to handle oversized packages in your mailbox installation. Please note that the U.S.P.S. requires one parcel locker for every five mailbox compartments. However, parcel lockers are not required if mail is delivered privately.
ADA Compliant Installations
Using the configurator, you can choose whether you want your mailboxes to be compliant with the American Disabilities Act. Accessible 4C mailbox configurations will allow reasonable access to users with specific reach requirements.
Design Cluster Mailbox Systems
A cluster box unit (CBU) mailbox is a free-standing, pedestal-mounted mailbox that includes multiple boxes and parcel compartments that can lock individually. Cluster mailboxes are used for centralized mail delivery locations in neighborhoods, apartment developments, business complexes and subdivisions.
The number of mailbox doors and parcel lockers featured in a Cluster mailbox system varies. Here’s more information about the customization options offered by our Cluster mailbox configurator.
Mailbox Compartments
The number of mailbox compartments in a Cluster mailbox installation dictates how many people will be able to receive their mail through that system. Using the mailbox configurator to create a mailbox design based on the total number of mailboxes makes the design process much easier.
Cluster Mailbox Design
There are two primary Cluster mailbox design options, and each is available in a variety of colors. You can choose between standard Cluster mailboxes and decorative Regency Cluster mailboxes. The standard CBU designs include the mailbox unit and matching pedestal, while decorative Regency CBU mailboxes feature decorative pedestal covers and attractive decorative tops. Once you’ve decided on the style, you can choose a color. Standard Cluster mailboxes are available in six contemporary colors and the decorative cluster mailboxes are available in five colors.
Tips For Using The Mailbox Configurator
The mailbox configurator provides users with a two-dimensional representation of the mailbox installation they are designing. There are two ways to use the configurator. If you know the number of mailbox compartments needed, enter the number in Step 1 on the landing page and the configurator will populate the optimal design for you. Or if you prefer to design yourself, you can select the type of mailbox or parcel door and drag it into the configurator. The configurator then renders your selection and displays a drawing that includes your selection. Repeat this process until you’ve designed your desired mailbox installation. Then, you can manage additional options like the type of finish, engravings, labels, and numbering sequence. Once you’re done, save the configuration, request a quote, or complete the order by checking out.
Quoting and Orders
Any mailbox design drawing created using the configurator can be used to request a quote or purchase mailboxes directly. The mailbox configurator is also the ideal option for bulk mailbox ordering. It allows you to configure as many installations as you like and then generate a quote on each one.
